Social Networking – The Common Myths and Mistakes People Make

By admin

Are you thinking about expanding your contact list by networking online? Social networking can be a beneficial component of your overall business marketing campaign, but for those who are just starting out, it’s important to do your research and avoid falling for widespread myths and making common mistakes.

Too many people, hoping to use social networking as a means of driving traffic to their business, are not using the tools available properly. This is why I am making the information conveniently available, as a free downloadable report, on the VBS on Demand website

Finding success online is determined by your goals and expectations. Social networking involves more than logging into your computer and telling the world what you are doing at any given second. Using social networking as a marketing tool involves strategy, tactic and a determined course of action.
So what are some common social networking myths and mistakes?  Below are a few mistakes we all have been guilty of making and tips on how to avoid and improve ourselves in order to achieve online success!

You won’t be instantly recognized. People often assume that social networking will gain instant recognition and their business will therefore receive quick results. The reality is that networking online still requires the same effort as networking in person. You must develop meaningful relationships to gain potential client trust and appreciation for the work you do. The mistake many people make is confusing social networking success with the number of their social networking contacts.  Having hundreds of contacts won’t necessarily catapult your business from start up to success.

Keep in regular contact. While developing meaningful relationships online, it’s important to keep in close and regular contact. Sending an update every couple of weeks will not suffice if you hope to gain the attention of potential customers and clients.

Sell without “selling”. Remember that networking doesn’t always have to mean ‘selling’ yourself and your business. Focus on other topics such as inspirational quotes, tips and product information. Self promotion isn’t always appreciated so learn how to sell without actually ‘selling’.

There are several ‘right’ and ‘wrongs’ when it comes to social networking, especially if you are networking to drive traffic to your business and hoping to successfully market yourself to the online community. Personally witnessing the above mentioned myths and mistakes, I have included them and more in the free report I am offering on my website.  Go to my sidbar and sign up for the OSN to recieve a free copy!
