If you’ve been utilizing internet marketing for any length of time, you probably know by now that the best way to get a potential client’s attention is to give them valuable information that is in no way a sales pitch. Yep, that’s right. The best way to sell is to not sell.
Social media expert Chris Brogan stumbled across a vivid example of the above statement the other day. As he was Googling local gyms, he found one he liked and was able to contact them when he saw an option to write a review of his choice. So he wrote a review, clicked submit, and up popped his comments, right there for all to see. Next to his review was a link to his Google profile, also readily accessible to anyone who cared to check it out. You probably don’t have time to go around writing reviews on everything under the sun, and quite frankly, some people won’t care enough to click through to your site. If you’re a florist reviewing a healthcare product, for example, you likely won’t get many results. After all, most people who are looking for healthcare products want information about healthcare, not flowers. Which is why, if you want to use this free advertising method, you should be selective about what you review. If you’re a bookkeeper who targets small business owners, maybe you should try Googling the latest and greatest bookkeeping products, including books and software that you’re familiar with. Write your own review, giving your expert stance on the ins and outs of that particular product, and a potential client just might think, “Hey, this person really knows their stuff. What’s this? They offer bookkeeping services? Hmm, I never thought about outsourcing my bookkeeping before. Maybe I should check them out…” They visit your website, fall deeply in love with the idea of having you take over their bookkeeping, and form a long-term business relationship with you. Okay, so that’s the fairytale version, but it could happen!
The point is that there are many options available to get your name out there without spending a dime, and you’d be wise to take advantage of as many as possible.
I found a great interview online at Scobleizer with Matt Mullenweg the founder of Wordpress and Automattic on the future of wordpress. They have a new version being released 2.7. Check it out below:
By now, you’ve heard about the powers of article marketing to grow your business and have decided to jump on board. You’ve poured hours into researching and writing your article and feel pretty good about the end result. And it might very well be a great article. Unfortunately, the best article in the world won’t get noticed by many if the article title isn’t catching your target market’s attention.
How do you write a killer article title? There are a few methods:
To start with, brainstorm ideas using two or three keywords from the article. Write everything down, even the ones you’re not thrilled with. Sometimes the act of writing alone will get your juices flowing, and you never know; maybe it’ll help bring out the perfect title for your masterpiece.
Be as specific as possible. Now that you have a few choices, narrow them down to those that are most specific. Remember, you’re competing with thousands of other articles covering similar topics, so you have to make your article stand out and get noticed. If your article is sharing copywriting tips, for example, “The Art of Copywriting” isn’t nearly as intriguing as “The Top 10 Copywriting Tips to Grow Your Business.” The first title is way too general and can seem a bit overwhelming to the reader, who is likely looking for specific answers to specific problems.
Immediately send an intriguing question to the reader’s mind. In the example above about top ten copywriting tips, the reader might wonder if they should try using copywriting to grow their own business. Maybe they’ve never thought about trying it before and are desperate to find something new to drive traffic to their websites and help increase their sales. So they read your article, like what you have to say, and decide to click to your website, where they purchase a copy of your eBook containing further do-it-yourself copywriting information. See, that hour you spent brainstorming an amazing title is paying off already!
These are just a few tips to get you started. For more information, please visit my website and check out my article called, “Writing Article Titles That Get Noticed.”
